Re-Post: Winnipeg North Rotary Scholarship Program

The Rotary Club of Winnipeg North is a service club and a part of Rotary International, which is an international service organization of individiual clubs whose members and activities are deveoted and directed to being of service and assistance to their Communities, the Cities in which they live, their Country and the people of the World. The Rotary Club of Winnipeg North devotes its service activities to the Winnipeg North Community and these scholarships are but one example of the kind of service that Winnipeg North Rotarians provide.

Each year, three of these scholarships are awarded to three (3) students from any of the following high schools in Winnipeg: Elmwood High School, Garden City Collegiate, Kildonan-East Collegiate, Maples Collegiate, Miles Macdonell COllegiate, River East Collegiate, St. John's High School, Sisler High School and West Kildonan Collegiate.

This program will officially launch on November 1st, and is open to graduating students who will be attending a post-secondary education institution in the fall of 2014 to pursue a course of study within Canada leading to a degree or diploma from the accredited community college or university of their choice.

Succesful recipients of the scholarship, worth $750.00, will demonstrate good academic abilities and standings, as well as contributions to their school and community through their involvement in extracurricular activities.

Police Preparation Diploma Program at the University of Winnipeg

The Police Preparation Diploma (PPD) program will prepare individuals to be successful in meeting the admission requirements of police forces across Manitoba. This full time eight month program is scheduled to run in September of each year.

The PPD program will focus on the academic preparation, personal wellness, and physical fitness training necessary to meet the rigorous entrance requirements for a career in law enforcement.

Manitoba Forage Seed Scholarship 2014

This scholarship opportunity is to be offered to a qualified High School or University Student who:

-- Is a resident of Manitoba; and
-- Is a member of, or has a parent who is amember of, the Manitoba Forage Seed Association (MFSA), or who has a special interest in forage seed production (e.g. school study related to forage seeds); and
-- Is enrolled, or is applying to enroll, in a degree or diploma program at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the University of Manitoba; and
-- Has achieved a cummulative grade point average of at least 2.5 or 65%.

Applicant must complete an application form (found in student services) with contact information and a paragraph related to eligibility, a resume with complete details about education, employment and activities, as well as proof of application, acceptance or enrollment in a U of M Agriculture Program.

Applications are due no later than October 31st, 2014.

Manitoba Young Liberals Scholarships

The Manitoba Young Liberals (a committee of the Manitoba Liberal Party) are offering several scholarships to students who are entering, or continuing in, post secondary education programs in Manitoba for the school year 2014/2015. This is the sixth year we are offering these scholarships and in the past students from more than a dozen Manitoba rural and urban schools have won scholarships.

There are two scholarships worth $500, and two scholarships worth $100 available. Each amount is awarded to one student inside the city of Winnipeg, and one student outside the city of Winnipeg.

Application requirements include:
1. Completed application form (available from Student Services)
2. A written essay the discusses the applicants vision for the future of Manitoba, and answers the question "If you were elected Premier of Mantioba, what would you do?" (Essay must be 1000 words maximum, typed, double spaced in 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font.)

1. $500 Acting Out Grad – Theatre Arts Scholarship
Deadline – March 31, 2014
Show off your theatrics! Grade 12 students applying for this scholarship should describe how they express themselves through music, acting or working behind-the-scenes.

2. $500 Sweat Your Way to Grad – Athletics Scholarship
Deadline – April 30, 2014
For the student athlete who demonstrates school spirit throughout the year. Include special awards (MVP, team captain, league championship, class president etc.)

3. $500 Making Grad Great – Graduation Scholarship
Deadline – May 31, 2014
This scholarship goes to the student who best displays how they went the extra mile to make grad special at their school.

The Mark & Dorothy Danzker Scholarship for Excellence

The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba and Folkarama present the Mark and Dorothy Danzker Award of Excellence for ethno-cultural preservation. There are five (5) scholarships of $1000 each to be awarded in September 2014 to students who meet the following criteria:

-- Be accepted or currently enrolled in a univeristy, college, or other recognized post-secondary institution in Canada, with a minimum of an 80% course-load.
-- Be between the ages of 17-25 years old.
-- Be a resident of Manitoba for a minumum of 6 months.
-- Demonstrate an active involvement in preserving ethno-cultural heritage through volunteerism and/or employment.
-- Have achieved minumum academic average of 75% or cumulative 3.0 GPA.
-- Have no previously been a recipient of this scholarship.
-- Not be a Folklarmama board or staff member or immediate family of same.

All applications submited must contain the following:

1. Transcript of full marks from high school and, if applicable, from university (copy). If submitting marks from high school prior to confirmation of final marks for grade 12 credits, include a copy of the most recent report card in addition to any available transcript to date.

2. Completion of the questionnaire (available from Ms. Sidorow or Ms. Catalano in Student Services).

3. Two supporting letters of reference. One reference must be from an ethno-cultural community regarding your involvement in preserving ethno-cultural heritage. The second reference must be from a member of the general community (religious/cultural leader, teacher/principal, etc.) who has known the applicant for a minimum of 2 years. NB: Neither reference letter can be from a relative. Letters of reference must be in a sealed envelope, with the referee's signature across the sealed flap; their name, address and phone number on the front; and submitted with the application. There are further guidlines for reference letters in the complete application package, which can be found in Student Services.

The complete application must be submitted in one envelope the following address by the imposed deadline of April 30th, 2014.

Agriculture and Food Sciences Centennial Entrance Scholarship

In 2014, seven Agricultural and Food Sciences Centennial Entrance Scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded.

Agriculture and food related industries are growing in world importance and with a shortage of graduates in these professions, now is a great time for young people to consider a career in agricultural and food sciences.

Graduates of Manitoba’s diploma and degree programs have a tremendous choice of careers in areas like medicinal food research, international trade, product development, food safety, biotechnology, environmental science, food production, marketing, and sales. The Centennial Entrance Scholarships are now available to help provide the financial support you may need to pursue a future in agriculture.

Alumni, faculty, agricultural industry and friends of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and the Province of Manitoba through the department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development have each contributed $150,000 for an endowed scholarship in honour of the 100th Anniversary of the faculty that was originally established in 1906 as the Manitoba Agricultural College.

Eligibility:
The scholarships will be awarded to Manitoba high school students who plan to enter the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at The University of Manitoba. Eligible students may enter either the two-year Diploma in Agriculture program or the four-year Bachelor of Science degree program. Students entering the degree program either through Direct Entry (right out of high school) or through Advanced Entry (after completion of University 1) must register for a specific set of courses in their first year as determined by the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and as outlined in the University STARTbook.

The $2,000 scholarships will be applied to tuition as follow:
1. Diploma Program: in the first year of the program.
2. Degree program (through Direct Entry): in the first year.
3. Degree Program (through Advanced Entry): the funds will be held until the student exits University 1 and registers in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences in their second year of study.

Spur Young Scholars

Spur is a festival of politics, art and ideas; the Spur Young Scholars Program is designed to engage the next level of thinkers and doers across our city as they learn and lead us into the next generation.

Spur Young Scholars Program has a goal to provide students of all achievement levels across the board an opportunity to experience a day of lectures and discussions at the Univeristy of Manitoba. SYS Day provides a preview of engaging and stimulating conversations for students who are yet undecided or unsure about their post-secondary studies, but are curious to find out more.

The confirmed introductory courses such as “Intro to Urban and Inner City Studies,” “Intro to Indigenous Studies,” and “Intro to English: Reading Culture,” as well as specialized courses like “When Human Rights Go Wrong,” “Canadian Immigration and Settlement,” and “”Human Environmental Interactions.”

Spur Young Scholars Day occurs in Winnipeg on Friday, March 21st, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. This program is FREE of charge and lunch will be provided.
